Hi!
It's Franny here again and I have another post for you.
Today we will be talking about building your web presence. As a business that wants to build an online presence, it is important to know what excatly would work for your business. Building a web presence for your business is something you will have to be intentional and well detailed about.
It's a lot to take in, so I'll just get right into it.
There are a few things to consider when choosing to build an web presence:
- Choosing your online presence: its possible for your business to have an online presence without owning a website. With local directories like "google my business" and "bing places for your business" , businesses can publish details of their businesses like description, reviews, images etc. The main point is that whatever platform you chose to use whether webistes or apps, your customers understand what your business is about.
- How Websites Work: A website rnns on a server and a server is like a system connected to the internet. Its called a server because it serves up the right content when requested. The communication between the sever and the internet is a bit complex but everything together is what makes a website work seamlessly.
- The Domain Name: your domain name is how your customers will be able to find your site. For example; www.collateralgrowth.com the "collateralgrowth" part is the domain name. You would want to make it simple and easy to remember so that it doesn't scare your customers away. When picking your domain name, you would want to pick something that is available. For example, if collateralgrowth.com is unavailable, I can pick collateralgrowth.co.uk, or collateralgrowth.xyz or collateralgrowth.io. There are lots of ways to make your choosen domain name to work for you, you just have to figure it out. Your home page is the first place your customers are going to see so make sure it is well detailed in simple words and easy for your customers to understand.
- Website and Your Business Goals: your website has to meet your busines needs and the needs of your customers as well. Combining what you want to do on your site and what your customers will do brings about sucess. The content of your website, the wordings is so important as that will give your customers a clear understanding of what you do and why they should purchase from you. The words on your website should be more than just a sales pitch or technical words, but rather it should be you explaining how your business solves the problem fo your customers. The tone of your wtiting is also important. Make sure you sound confident but not intimidating or aggressive. In other words, use simple words.
- Making Your Website Easy To Use: your website should be easy to navigate, this is where UI/UX plays a major role in your website building. Your customers should be able to navigate through your website with ease, else, they would lose interest in your business. Your page layout is also very important as well. The colouring and positioning is very important too. Use a dark text over light background or vice versa, especially white and black preferably. Adding a call to action (CTA) so that your customers actually do something on your website is important. For example; call now, place your order now etc.
- A few dos and donts of website deisgn: i'll drop a few points on this below:
- Ditch large high-resolution files. they are very slow to load and this era of internet people do not have the patience to wait for a picture to load for over 20 seconds.
- Keep your designs simple and low resolution but still good quality
- Use the same background image across many pages
- If you want to see how good your website is doing, use a data connection and not wifi to test.
- Use widely recognied icons for clear context
- Make use of GPS and mapping features to help finding your business easier
- Do a test run on different browsers and devices to be sure your website is working well without errors
- Finally, remember that your website is not only for selling but also solving.
I hope this didn't bore you, but undertand that this information is crucial in making sure you accomplish the goals of your website and business as a whole.
Till the next one
Franny.
