Do Businesses Need An Online Presence?

What really is the fuss about having an online presence as a business? Is it really something that is needed for business growth and how is it measured? These were probably the questions asked in business meetings when social media and digital marketing became a thing.

It's scary sometimes to try new ways to expand the visibility of a business and I get that. So, the question still remains... Do businesses need an online presence?

I'm Francess, but for the sake of this platform, you can call me Franny, because Franny is what I'm called when my help is needed. I'm on the journey to document my growth and help others while in the process.

I'm learning the importance of having an online presence as a business.

The online space is fast growing and will continue to expand as the years go by. people are looking for better and easier ways to grow their company/business visibility and find more seamless ways to grow their businesses, increase their customer base, and increase revenue. The Internet is vast becoming a wide space for this and it is important that businesses that want to thrive in this current era would need to hop on board to be seen.

Businesses can thrive better when they are online. Having an online presence helps you connect with the right audience for your business and helps you understand the needs and wants of your target market. For example, a baker in a neighbouring area can create an online presence for her business whilst targeting local directories, letting people in that location know what she does and this brings more visibility to her business and more customers as well.

There are multiple ways to build an online presence for your business ranging from social media, website and even mobile applications.  Some businesses use all, and some use just one or two. But what is most important is finding the one that works for your business.

Here are a few things to consider when building an online presence for your business;

  • Scope: this is more like the platform you will use for creating your online presence. It could be a web app, mobile app or social media. (For clarity: a web app is a website, a mobile app is a regular app you download from your play/app store and social media is well.. social media platform). Like I said before, not all businesses need all, some need just one or two based on the kind of business you are running. You will need to consider that when deliberating on what works for you and your business.
  • Technology and Content: what kind of technology do you want to use and how does it speak to your business? You will need to put these things into consideration as well. What kind of content would be on these platforms? What is your aim? what do you want people to see? How should people view your business? These are also things to consider as well.
  • Cost and Time: you will need to set a realistic budget to run these online platforms. You would also need a clear schedule of how you plan to handle and execute this online visibility expansion and you will need to set clear milestones because you would need to be sure what you are doing is actually working and you would need to monitor the growth as well.

Growing an online presence is not an easy task but it is worth it in the long run. So, to answer the question; "Do Businesses Need an Online Presence?" Well, yes, they do, if their plan is to thrive of course.

I hope this was helpful.

See you at the next one.

Franny.
